Cryptic Story
A friend of mine lives on the 14th floor of a high-rise apartment
building.
Arriving home one night, at midnight, he stepped on to the elevator and hit the button for the 14th floor, like always. However, just as the elevator began to move, the button for the 8th floor lit-up as if it were pressed at the last second.

"Huh? Did somebody get in with me?" my friend said he wondered out-loud.
Surprised,
he hit the buttons for the next few floors (2, 3, 4, 5) in hopes of
stopping the elevator.
As the elevator passed the second floor without stopping he panicked and began to pry open the doors. The doors, being forced open, stopped the elevator on the third floor and he fled the elevator and the building.

He spent the rest of the night reading at a
convenience store thinking about what had happened. By sunrise he had
convinced himself that he had over reacted to the situation and went home.
However, he has never used that elevator late at night again.

He was not overthinking! There is really someone press the 8th floor button haha. Very scary. Especially if the narrator stands in front of the number button. It means something passed him/her but s/he did not feel it.
ReplyDeleteYou deciphered it nicely.
DeleteNothing supernatural, his instincts tell him that the elevator might be short-circuiting, and if he does not get out immediately, he shall be stuck.
ReplyDelete"However, he has never used that elevator late at night again."
Because of maintenance, disregard the "night".
And take note that unless it is a soft touch button, it will make a sound upon pressing.
